背景信息	Translationally-controlled tumor protein (TCTP), also known as Fortilin or Histamine-releasing factor (HRF) or p23, and encoded by the gene name TPT1, has a potent anti-apoptotic function. Calcium up-regulates TCTP transcription, suggesting a role for TCTP in intracellular calcium homeostasis. It is apparently a histamine-releasing factor identified from a protein-inducing secretion of histamine from basophiles, with an extensive homology to TPT1. TCTP is also a tubulin-binding protein that associates with microtubules in a cell-cycle dependent fashion. Furthermore, it is suggested to regulate cellular pluripotency. TCTP is localized to the cytoplasm and found in several healthy and tumoral cells including erythrocytes, hepatocytes, macrophages, platelets, keratinocytes, erythroleukemia cells, gliomas, melanomas, hepatoblastomas, and lymphomas.
