背景信息 The protein named MMP-10 or Stromelysin-2 (SL-2) or Transin-2 and encoded by the human gene named MMP10/STMY2 is a matrix metalloproteinase important in extracellular matrix maintenance. MMP-10 can degrade a variety of extracellular matrix proteins including fibronectin, proteoglycans, collagen I, III, IV and V and non-natural gelatins. MMP-10 is not highly expressed in normal tissues such as lung but is elevated in non small cell carcinomas and localizes to the tumor mass rather than the stroma. Interestingly, recent research also has shown that the expression of MMP-10 required for lung cancer stem cell maintenance, tumor initiation and metastatic potential of lung cancer and is a likely candidate for a similar function in other cancers as well, thus MMP-10 has become a target for anti-cancer therapy.
