背景信息 Elongation of very long chain fatty acids protein 6 (ELOVL6), also known as Fatty acid elongase 2 (FACE), 3-keto acyl-CoA synthase ELOVL6, Fatty acyl-CoA elongase (hELO2), Long-chain fatty-acyl elongase (LCE), and Very-long-chain 3-oxoacyl-CoA synthase 6, is a fatty acyl-CoA elongase gene family that converts palmitic to stearic acid and it has been shown to be a target of the transcription factor sterol regulatory element-binding protein (SREBP)-1. SREBP-1 plays an important role in de novo synthesis of long-chain saturated and monosaturated fatty acids along with fatty acid synthase and stearoyl-CoA desaturase. ELOVL6 is a condensing enzyme that catalyzes the synthesis of saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids with highest activity toward C16:0 acyl-CoAs. ELOVL6 is expressed ubiquitously and it is implied to be essential for tissue fatty acid composition.
