背景信息	Interferon regulatory factor 5 (IRF-5/IRF5) is a transcription factor protein responsible in part for host immunity against extracellular pathogens. IRF5 regulates the induction of interferons IFNA and INFB upon virus infection. IRF5 also up regulates various inflammatory cytokines upon viral infection as well. Activation is via TLR7 or TLR8, and results in phosphorylation of serine and threonine residues in the C-terminal autoinhibitory region; phosphorylation stimulates dimerization and transport into the nucleus where IRF5 interacts with CBP/p300 coactivator to initiate transcription of its response genes. Interestingly, genetic polymorphisms mapping to the IRF5 gene have been associated with susceptibility to inflammatory bowel disease type 14 (IBD14), systemic lupus erythematosus type 10 (SLEB10) and rheumatoid arthritis. Beyond interferons and viruses, IRF5 is also critical in regulating several other cellular functions. IRF5 exerts crucial functions in the regulation of DNA damage-induced apoptosis, death receptor signaling, and macrophage polarization. Recently, the COP9 signalosome (CSN), a general modulator of diverse cellular and developmental processes, was found to associate constitutively with IRF5 and promote its protein stability, thereby pushing IRF5 influence on cellular biology and physiology even further. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-IRF5 rabbit polyclonal antibody has been tested by western blot on Jurkat cell lysates and in paraffin embedded immunohistochemistry on human breast cancer tissue sections.
