背景信息 Human IRGC protein belongs to a large group of GTPase proteins know as the Immunity-related GTPases (IRG) (formerly known as p47 GTPases). This family of proteins is found in all vertebrates and appears to play critical roles in mediating innate resistance, or host defense, to intracellular pathogens. In most organisms, members of this family of proteins are induced by interferon (IFN), and thus part of the interferon-inducible GTPase family of proteins as well. Human IRGC (IRGC1/GTPase 5/Cinema1) is one of two proteins found in humans, the other being IRGM. Interestingly, IRGC in humans is not under IFN control and some suggest that this form of host-defense mechanism is lacking in humans, however recent evidence counters this as IRGM appears to play a role in defense against Mycobacteria.
