背景信息 Protein argentine methyltransferase 6 (PRMT6) is a known coregulator of gene expression. It acts as a repressor as well as an activator by asymmetric dimethylation of Histone H3 at R2 (H3 R2me2a). It is also known to methylate Histone H3 at Lys-4 (H3K4me2 and H3K4me3), Histone H2A at Arg-3 (H2AR3me) and Histone H4 at Arg-3 (H4R3me). PRMT6 regulates cell proliferation and senescence through transcriptional repression of tumor suppressor genes. Studies show that PRMT6 catalyzes the formation of asymmetrical dimethylarginine (aDMA) and omega-N monomethylarginine (MMA), but demonstrates greater affinity for aDMA formation. PRMT6 regulates other targets such as, but not limited to, HOXA2 the p53 tumor suppressor, and thrombospondin-1.
