背景信息 Tet1, also known as Methylcytosine dioxygenase TET1, or CXXC-type zinc finger protein 6, or Ten-eleven translocation 1 gene protein homolog, and encoded by the gene Tet1/Cxxxc6/Kiaa1676, is a dioxygenase that catalyzes the conversion of the modified genomic base 5-methylcytosine (5mC) into 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) and plays a key role in active DNA demethylation. Tet1 also appears to mediate the subsequent conversion of 5hmC into 5-formylcytosine (5fC), and conversion of 5fC to 5-carboxylcytosine (5caC). Methylation at the C5 position of cytosine bases is an epigenetic modification which seems to play an important role in transcriptional regulation and chromatin formation. Tet1 is localized to the nucleus. Tet1 is expressed in embryonic expression particularly in ES cells.
