背景信息	Kallikreins are a group of proteases, of which the tissue kallikrein-related peptidases (KLKs) encode a family of fifteen closely related serine proteases. As a group they are responsible for the coordination of various physiological functions including blood pressure, semen liquefaction and skin desquamation. Kallikrein-1 (KLK1) or alternatively, Kidney/pancreas/salivary gland kallikrein or Tissue kallikrein is the enzyme that cleaves kininogen to release Lys-bradykinin, a vasoactive vasodilation peptide, and thus help to relate blood pressure in a similar fashion to that of plasma kallikrein (KLKB1). Kinin peptides are also released during inflammation and are amongst the most potent known mediators of vasodilation, pain, and oedema or dropsy. KLK1 in normal breast plays a role in modulating healthy breast tissue growth during pregnancy and also is the source of tissue kallikrein present in human milk. KLK1 is upregulated in immortalized breast cancer cells and appears important in the bradykinin stimulated growth and proliferation of human breast cancer cells. Moreover deregulated KLK expression, secretion, and function of KLK family members has been observed in several pathological conditions and, particularly, in endocrine-related human malignancies, including those of the prostate, breast, and ovary. The cancer-related abnormal activity of KLKs upon substrates such as growth factors, cell adhesion molecules, cell surface receptors, and extracellular matrix proteins facilitate both tumorigenesis and disease progression to the advanced stages, thus KLKs, including KLK1 are a focus of much research. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-KLK1 rabbit polyclonal antibody has been tested in western blot on A375 cells and in paraffin embedded immunohistochemistry on human pancreatic cancer tissue sections.
