背景信息 The six-transmembrane epithelial antigen of prostate 2 (STEAP2) is a member of the STEAP family. The STEAP proteins are metalloreductases which promote both iron and copper reduction. STEAP2 has been demonstrated to act as a ferrireductase and cupric reductase, suggesting that STEAP2 stimulates cellular uptake of both iron and copper in vitro. Iron and copper are essential for all organisms, assuming critical roles as cofactors in many enzymes. STEAP2 is expressed at high levels in prostate and at significantly lower levels in heart, brain, kidney, pancreas, and ovary.
