BS1 is a life-threatening condition beginning in utero, with marked fetal polyuria that leads to polyhydramnios and premature delivery. Another hallmark of BS1 is a marked hypercalciuria and, as a secondary consequence, the development of nephrocalcinosis and osteopenia.
