背景信息 Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) is a single-pass type I membrane protein belonging to the Toll-like receptor family and is comprised of 14 LRR repeats and a single TIR domain. TLR2 interacts with LY96 or TLR1 to regulate innate immune response to bacterial lipoproteins and other components of the microbial cell wall. It induces the activation of NFκB, inflammatory response and cytokine secretion through interactions with MYD88 and TRAF6. It may also function as a promoter for apoptosis. High expression of TLR2 has been reported in blood leukocytes, specifically in bone marrow, lymph node, monocytes and spleen. It has also been observed in fetal liver and lung tissues. TLRs are highly conserved from Drosophila to humans and share structural and functional similarities. They recognize pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) that are expressed on infectious agents, and mediate the production of cytokines necessary for the development of effective immunity. The various TLRs exhibit different patterns of expression.
