背景信息	The gene currently named SUV39H1, or KMT1A, or SUV38H encodes a protein called histone-lysine N methyltransferase SUV39H1, or Histone H3-K9 methyltransferase 1 (H3-K9-HMTase 1), or Lysine N-methyltransferase 1A, or the Position-effect variegation 3-9 homolog or finally the Suppressor of variegation 3-9 homolog 1 (Su(var)3-9 homolog 1). SUV39H1’s function is to specifically trimethylate 'Lys-9' of histone H3 using monomethylated H3 'Lys-9' as substrate. H3 'Lys-9' trimethylation appears to be a specific tag for epigenetic transcriptional repression by recruiting HP1 (CBX1, CBX3 and/or CBX5) proteins to methylated histones. SUV39H1 plays a central role in the establishment of constitutive heterochromatin at pericentric and telomere regions. H3 'Lys-9' trimethylation is also required to direct DNA methylation at pericentric repeats. SUV39H1 is targeted to histone H3 via its interaction with RB1 and is involved in many processes, such as repression of MYOD1-stimulated differentiation, the regulation of the control switch for exiting the cell cycle and entering differentiation, the expression of switch recombination for immunoglobulin IgA switching, and in the regulation of telomere length. SUV39H1 is localized to the nucleus and chromosomes, but during mitosis it collects at the centromeres during prometaphase but dissociates from the centromere at the meta-anaphase transition. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-SUV39H1 has been tested in western blot on HepG2, HeLa, 293T, MCF-7, Saos-2 and Raji cell lysates.
