背景信息	Protein NDRG1, also known as Differentiation-related gene 1 protein (DRG-1) or N-myc downstream-regulated gene 1 protein or Nickel-specific induction protein Cap43 or Reducing agents and tunicamycin-responsive protein (RTP) or Rit42, and encoded by the gene name NDRG1 or CAP43 or DRG1 or RTP, is a member of the NDRG family, which is a part of the alpha/beta hydrolase superfamily. It is mostly found in the cytoplasm, but at times migrates to the cell membrane and adherens junctions. NDRG1 is up-regulated during hypoxia and this may infer a role in protection from ischemic cell damage. NDRG1 levels in certain cancers may be a useful diagnostic tool. NDRG1 is also required for p53-mediated caspase activation and apoptosis. NDRG1 overexpression may be a great indicator of tumor aggressiveness and prognosis. Mutations in NDRG1 have been assoicated with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease 4D.
