背景信息	Secreted frizzled-related protein 1 (FRP-1, sFRP-1, FRP, FRP1, SFRP1), also known as Secreted apoptosis-related protein 2 (SARP2), is a soluble frizzled-related protein that binds with various Wnt signaling family members and modulates their function. Wnt signaling is involved in cell fate determination, cell polarity, tissue patterning, control of cell proliferation, and the development various cancers. Control of Wnt signaling can take on many forms but one of the earliest discover was through antagonists binding to various Wnt proteins and preventing their binding to receptors and sequent signaling cascade activation.SFRP1 is widely expressed in heart, testis, ovary, fetal kidney, brain and lung, but absent from adult liver, lung and peripheral blood leukocytes. Through its regulation of Wnt signaling, SFPR1 has an impact on several cellular functions. SFRP1 decreases intracellular beta-catenin levels thus has anti-proliferative effects on vascular cells, and in kidney development for example, SFRP inhibits tubule formation and bud growth in the final developing kidney. Recently SFRP1 has been shown to play an important role too in modulating cellular senescence. It seems that SFRP1 is oversecreted upon senescence caused by DNA damage or oxidative stress in normal cells, and thus SFRP1 mediates cellular senescence through the inhibition of Wnt signaling and activation of the retinoblastoma (Rb) pathway (a tumor suppression pathway) which keeps cells at rest. Interestingly, cancer-associated SFRP1 mutants are defective for senescence induction and thus mutations in SFRP1 alone may possibly lead to tumor formation and cancer. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-SFRP1 rabbit monoclonal antibody has been tested in western blot on human heart tissue and human cell line lysates and in immunohistochemistry on paraffin embedded human muscle tissue sections.
