背景信息 The protein named Engulfment and cell motility protein 3 and encoded by the human gene ELMO3 plays an important role in the cytoskeletal rearrangements necessary for phagocytosis of apoptotic cells as well as for cell motility. ELMO3 also works in association with DOCK1 (Dedicator of cytokinesis) and the adaptor protein CRK in intracellular signaling cascades. ELMO3 is an essential upstream regulator of the GTP-binding protein RAC during cell migration, and ELMO3 enhances the activity of small GTPase exchange factors like GEF, and Rho. ELMO3 is ubiquitously expressed and localized to the cytoplasm.
