背景信息 The protein Cadherin-23 or alternatively known as Otocadherin and encoded by the gene name of CDH23/KIAA1774/KIAA1812 is a member of the cadherins calcium dependent adhesion proteins. CDH23 plays a critical role in maintaining the proper organization of the stereocilia bundles of hair cells in the cochlea and the vestibule during late embryonic and early postnatal development. CDH23 also plays a similar role in the retina and is specifically expressed in the photoreceptors but its exact function in the retina is less understood than for the ear. CDH23 is a single pass membrane protein localized in the plasma membrane that has a large extracellular 27 repeating-domain sequence that interacts with another family member, protocadherin-15 expressed on neighboring cells. Defects in CDH23 cause human deafness and Usher syndrome a disease characterized by hearing loss and retinitis pigmentosa leading to visual impairments as well. Handling Recommendations: Upon receipt and prior to removing the cap, centrifuge the vial and gently mix the solution. Aliquot into microcentrifuge tubes and store at -20°C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles, which may damage IgG and affect product performance.
