背景信息 Pancreatic triacylglycerol lipase (PNLIP, PL, PTL) or Pancreatic lipase protein is a secreted enzyme produced in the pancreas and is the primary lipase involved in the breakdown of dietary fats in the human digestive system. PNLIP converts triglyceride substrates found in ingested oils to monoglycerides and free fatty acids. PNLIP requires another enzyme, Colipase, which helps prevent the inhibition from bile salts on the function of PNLIP. Bile salts help to emulsify fats and thus allow more surface area for enzymatic attack and thus quicker and more efficient digestion fats occurs. PNLIP is normally produced by the pancreas and present primarily in the duodenum of the small intestine. Serum concentrations are normally very low for PNLIP, and because of that detection of PNLIP in the blood serves as a biomarker for pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer. The current diet drug Orlistat is a pancreatic lipase inhibitor and works by preventing PNLIP activity, thus the ingested fats and oils are not broken down and pass though the body undigested.
