背景信息	The protein named UDP-glucose 4 epimerase, Galactowaldenase, or UDP-galactose 4-epimerase, and encoded by the human gene named GALE, is an epimerase that performs the UDP-glucose to UDP-galactose epimerization and the epimerization of UDP-N-acetylglucosamine to UDP-N-acetylgalactoamine. This epimerization is the final step in galactose metabolism GALE enzyme isoforms are found expressed from bacteria to man. In addition, GALE in mammals plays a role in glycoprotein or glycolipid synthesis by providing access to UDP-N-acetylgalactoamine, and thus important glycoproteins like mucin can be made by cells from galactose substrates. Expressed in most cells in the cytoplasm, GALE is most active in metabolically active tissues such as the liver, kidney, pancreas and muscle tissues. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-GALE rabbit polyclonal antibody has been tested in western blot on A375 cells and in paraffin embedded immunohistochemistry on human malignant melanoma tissue sections.
