背景信息 Apolipoprotein C-III (ApoC-III) has been shown to be an essential part of the metabolism of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins. ApoC-III is thought to exist in three different isoforms (ApoC-III0, ApoC-III1, and ApoC-III2) based on the sialylation degree. The primary CIII1 and CIII2 isoforms, contribute to hypertriglyceridemia and that apoC-III2 may be important in the expression of the small, dense LDL phenotype. Regulating apoC-III metabolism could be a promising new therapeutic approach to managing dyslipidaemia and cardiovascular disease risk in the metabolic syndrome. APOC3 inhibits lipoprotein lipase and hepatic lipase; it is thought to delay catabolism of triglyceride-rich particles. The APOA1, APOC3 and APOA4 genes are closely linked in both rat and human genomes. The A-I and A-IV genes are transcribed from the same strand, while the A-1 and C-III genes are convergently transcribed.
