背景信息	Amino acid transporters play essential roles in the uptake of nutrients, production of energy, chemical metabolism, detoxification, and neurotransmitter cycling. SLC38A1, or alternatively named the Sodium-coupled neutral amino acid transporter 1, Amino acid transporter A1, N-system amino acid transporter 2, Solute carrier family 38 member 1, System A amino acid transporter 1, or System N amino acid transporter 1 and encoded by the human gene named SLC38A1/ATA1/NAT2/SAT1/SNAT1 is an amino acid transporter in neurons that mediate the saturable, pH sensitive and electrogenic co-transport of glutamine and sodium ions in a 1:1 relationship and in the case of GABAergic neurons functions as their primary source for glutamine which is needed to the synthesis of glutamate and GABA. SLC38A1 is highly expressed in neurons, particularly in the cerebral cortex and pyramidal and GABAergic neurons. SCL38A1 is expressed in astrocytes and other non-neuronal cells in the placenta, heart, lung, skeletal muscles, spleen, stomach, and testis, and is localized in differentiated neurons in the dendrites, axons, and soma compartments. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-SLC38A1 rabbit polyclonal antibody has been tested in western blots on human brain tissue lysates and in paraffin embedded immunohistochemistry on human prostate cancer tissue sections.
