背景信息	The protein named Transcriptional-regulating factor 1 or alternatively, Breast cancer anti-estrogen resistance 2, Transcriptional-regulating protein 132, Zinc finger protein rapa or Zinc finger transcription factor TReP-132 and encoded by the human gene named TRERF1 or BCAR2/RAPA/TREP132 is a transcriptional regulator that activates the transcription of important Cytochrome P450 enzymes such as CYP11A1 which catalyzes the conversion of cholesterol to pregnenolone and is the first rate limiting step in steroid hormone synthesis. Highly expressed in thymus, testis and adrenal cortex, TRERF1 is also expressed in many cancers and cell lines of steroidogenic origins including HepG2 and HEK293 cell lines. TRERF1 localizes to the nucleus and interacts with CREB binding proteins as well as EP300 DNA binding proteins. Also TRERF1 has been shown to be a cell growth suppressor by inducing cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors p21WAF1 and p27Kip1.
