背景信息	Transcriptional repressor CTCFL or alternatively known as BORIS, Brother of the regulator of imprinted sites, CCCTC-binding factor, CTCF paralog, CTCF-like protein, Cancer/testis antigen 27, CT27, Zinc finger protein CTCF-T and encoded by the human gene named CTCFL/BORIS is a testis specific DNA binding protein responsible for insulator function, nuclear architecture and transcriptional control of male specific genes in a similar fashion to another protein, CTCF which acts in X-chromosome inactivation. The cellular function of CTCFL remains intriguing and it appears to be involved in developmental reprogramming of gene expression patterns. CTCFL expression is confined to the nucleolus and other euchromatin domains within the nucleus. Interestingly too, CTCFL localizes to centrosomes during interphase suggesting a possible role in cell cycle as well, and blocking cells at S phase or inducing DNA damage induces CTCFL accumulation in the effected cells dramatically. CTCFL is normally expressed only in germ cells but is aberrantly activated in numerous cancers. There are numerous isoforms of CTCFL and the extensive number of CTCFL variants have distinct DNA binding and transcriptional activation properties among them; the various variants differ too in their differential patterns of expression among germ cells and cancer cells suggesting that CTCFL is involved in a range of functionally important aspects of both normal gametogenesis and cancer development. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-CTCFL rabbit polyclonal antibody has been tested in western blot on mouse testis tissue extracts and in paraffin embedded immunohistochemistry on human ovarian cancer tissue sections and in fluorescent immunocytochemistry on SY5Y7 cells in culture.
