背景信息 The protein named DNA-directed RNA polymerase II subunit RPB2 or alternatively DNA-directed RNA polymerase II 140 kDa polypeptide, DNA-directed RNA polymerase II subunit B, RNA polymerase II subunit 2 or RNA polymerase II subunit B2 and encoded by the human gene named POLR2B is the second largest component of the multi-protein complex that comprises the functional enzyme known as RNA polymerase II (Pol II). Pol II is one of three RNA polymerases and is the major RNA transcription polymerase for housekeeping genes. As Pol II is located in the nucleus, so is POLR2B. Additionally, POLR2B is thought to contribute to catalytic activity of the holo-enzyme Pol II because it helps form the active center together with the largest subunit of Pol II.
