背景信息 Interleukin-13 (IL-13) is a cytokine that is secreted by helper T cells in reaction to T cell antigen receptor signaling. IL-13 is also secreted by mast cells and basophils when cross-linking with immunoglobulin E. IL-13 seems to play a role as an effector in ulcerative colitis that weakens epithelial barrier function by influencing epithelial apoptosis, tight junctions and restitution velocity. IL-13 has been shown to be involved in the pathogenesis of allergic diseases such as atopic dermatitis. IL-13 seems to also have a role to play in alcohol mediated activation of pro-fibrotic pathways.
