背景信息	Profilin-1 (PFN1) is a small cytoplasmic protein that regulates actin polymerization in response to various extracellular signals. It may bind G-actin preventing actin assembly, which is released upon stimulation with phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate. At low concentrations, Profilin-1 may also facilitate nucleotide exchange required for elongation of actin filaments. Profilin-1 also interacts with polyproline-containing proteins, such as the Huntingtin protein, to inhibit protein aggregation. Profilin-1 is regulated by phosphorylation of its Ser137 residue by ROCK, and dephosphorylation by the protein phosphatase 1. In normal cells, Profilin-1 may be involved in cell adhesion, cytokinesis, cell motility, vesicle formation, and neuron migration. It is also associated with neurodegenerative diseases and cancer.
