背景信息	The protein named Cytosolic epoxide hydrolase 2 (CEH) or Epoxide Hydratase, soluble epoxide hydrolase (SEH) or Lipid-phosphate phosphatase and encoded by the human gene EPHX2 is a peroxisome and cytoplasmically localized enzyme that has both epoxide hydrolase activity and phosphatase activity. The epoxide hydrolase activity is useful in xenobiotics activity and neutralizing toxic epoxides and other chemicals, while the phosphatase activity appears to function in lipid signaling as phospholipids are the primary targets. EPHX2 is often over expressed in cancer cells and is likely a candidate for cancer drug resistance because of the epoxide hydrolase activity and recent research using RNA knockdown on cancer cells demonstrates that EPHX2 expression is essential for cancer cell growth and survival, thus EPHX2 is being examined as a potential target for cancer therapeutics. EPHX2 protein is also found expressed in cytoplasm where it is believe that the phosphatase activity is the most influential. EPHX2 is expressed in liver and kidney tissues as well as vascular smooth muscle, red blood cells and adipocytes. Also because EPHX2 has activity against lipid signaling molecules such as epoxyeicosatrienoic acids (EETs) and these have vasoactive, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic properties, EPHX2 is also being examined as a target for cardiovascular disease mediation and anti-inflammatory diseases.
