背景信息	Alkaline phosphatase liver /bone/kidney isozyme, or alternatively AP-TNAP, TNSALP, Alkaline phosphatase, tissue non-specific isozyme is one of four distinct alkaline phosphatases. ALPL is encoded by the human gene ALPL/ AP-TNAP/APTNAP/ HOPS/TNAP/TNSALP and is expressed rather non-specifically in many tissues, hence its name, to distinguish it from its brother isozymes which are, more or less, expressed in specific tissues or regions such as the intestines and placenta. ALPL function is not completely clear as knockout mice appear normal; however, in humans there is a genetic disease associated with ALPL called hypophosphatasia a disease which is characterized by high calcium levels and various skeletal and bone defects and the disorder is often fatal. Recent research seems to indicate that ALPL may function in defense in inflammatory responses as it is often upregulated in inflammation, and interestingly the pulmonary pathogen Francisella tularensis produces a heat shock protein related to DnaK that specifically inhibits ALPL activity which appears to be advantageous for the pathogen. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-ALPL rabbit polyclonal antibody has been tested in western blot on HEK293 cell extracts and in paraffin embedded immunohistochemistry in human colon cancer tissue sections.
