背景信息 Caspase-5 (CASP5) is a member of the peptidase C14A family that can be divided into the apoptotic and inflammatory caspase subfamilies. Members of this subfamily include caspase-1, -4, -5, and -12. When activated, these caspases result in the cleavage and activation of proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-1beta and IL-18. Caspase-5 is expressed in barely detectable amounts in most tissues except brain, with highest levels being found in lung, liver and skeletal muscle.
