    背景信息 Histone methylation occurs on arginine and lysine residues and is catalyzed by two families of proteins, the protein arginine methyltransferase family and the SET-domain-containing methyltransferase family. Like other PR-domain-containing proteins, PRDM9 (also known as MEISETZ, or Meiosis-induced factor containing PR/SET domain and zinc-finger motif) is thought to be involved in transcriptional regulation. PRDM9/MEISETZ is a novel histone tri-methyltransferase that regulates meiosis-specific epigenesis. PRDM9/MEISETZ catalyses H3K4 trimethylation and activates transcription through its methylation activity. It contains a KRAB motif also found in SSX genes.
