背景信息 A-kinase anchor proteins (AKAPs) function to localize the cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA) to specific subcellular sites. Anchoring of PKA is an efficient means to adapt the kinase for specific cAMP-responsive events as it permits rapid and preferential phosphorylation of target substrates upon elevation of cAMP. So far, 35 unique AKAPs have been identified which function to tether the kinase to a variety of cellular structures and organelles.
