背景信息 Zinc-finger transcription factor (Zic2) is a conserved signaling protein with critical roles in neural development including neurulation, anteroposterior patterning, neural crest formation, cerebellar development, and ipsilateral axonal targeting across the optic chiasm. It activates the transcription of target genes by DNA binding and recruitment of RNA helicase A (RHA). Zic2 has been shown to operate as a transcriptional repressor of cellular proliferation and neurogenesis. Zic2 is expressed in pluripotent cells in the blastocyst and adult brain expression overlaps with markers of neurogenesis. The Zic2kd/kd mice show holoprosencephaly and spina bifida, which derive from malformations in the anterior and posterior ends of the neural tube, respectively.
